About us:
Warwick Water Polo has been competing since 1999 and has established itself as one of the strongest clubs in the region. Playing good polo at Senior and Junior levels, with two Men's teams, and one mixed youth side.
Our two senior teams compete in the Midlands water polo league during the season, with one side currently in division 2, whilst the other plays in division 3. The senior players also compete in other local competitions, as a mix between the two sides. These competitions include the Warwickshire Cup, Winter league, and the Knockout Cup.
The youth team also has their fair share of games, playing in the local youth league, with a side ranging in ages from 11 - 15 years old. They currently compete in division 2.
We are always on the lookout for new players, experienced or not. As long as you have a passion for water polo, you are welcome in our waters. With enough commitment from players, we could enter the National League again.
Training / Fixtures:
All training sessions and home games take place at the Warwick School Sports Centre. In the case of a cancelation or change of venue, players will be notified beforehand. For away games, the time and venue can vary and will depend on the hosting team, though these details will be announced with plenty of time before the fixture.
During summer the team temporarily relocates one of the training sessions to the Woodgreen Leisure Centre, in Banbury. This open-air 50m pool gives us the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the lovely weather, whilst it lasts. The Monday sessions, swap to Thursday and are extended by 30 minutes. This change lasts from May to September.

Social:
As water polo is a team sport, we have plenty of team social events to have some fun together outside of the water. This includes the usual drink at our local pub after our Wednesday training sessions during the winter and the Banbury sessions during the summer. In addition to after training, we usually tend to enjoy a drink after our games too, which also includes some food to replace the burnt calories, home and mostly away too. For away games, this usually depends on the team we are visiting.
Moby Dick Tournament
During the summer the team also goes on tour to the Netherlands on a weekend in July. This tour runs from Friday to Monday, if you decide to go by ferry, or you can decide to fly if you can't get those weekdays off. In the Netherlands, we participate in the Moby Dick Water Polo tournament, which takes place at the lake "De Zandpol" sub-divided into multiple playing fields. The tournament is split into multiple divisions and has both male and female competitions. Our team usually sends two teams, though this depends on the number of people that sign up for the tour. For more information about the tournament, you can go here.
Other Socials
During the summer the team tries to take advantage of the sun as much as possible, as in the UK we don't much of it anyways. If there is lovely weather, one of the players could decide to host a team BBQ. This provides the perfect opportunity for players to get together out of the water, and share a drink or two, and for the player's families to meet.
In the past, we have also hosted golf days, for those that enjoy the sport, or just want to try it out. We've played at some of the local courses such as Newbold Comyn (now closed), Helidon Lakes, and Maxstoke Park Golf Club. Usually, we will split the players into groups, and the winning team earns the coveted golf day trophy.
During the winter holidays, the team has a family get together, usually just before Christmas. This is a light-hearted evening where we reflect on the past season and enjoy some food and drinks together with our teammates and their families. Some of the highlights of the evening are the awarding of players for their performances in the past season, with the most notable prize being the cactus award. During the year players will make nominations for funny events that involved another player, and at this event, we vote for the nominations that have made the shortlist. Whoever wins the cactus, has to look after that cactus for the following year, until it is passed on to the next recipient.
